Dr. S M Ali is currently working as the Vice President in Solar Energy Society of India. Prior to this he was working as the Director (Membership) with Institute of Engineers India. Earlier he was working as an Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Associate Dean, Training and Placement, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar and Deputy Controller of Examination, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. He did his M. Tech from Calcutta University in 2003 and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from International University, California, USA in 2006. He completed his DSc in Electrical Engineering, International University, California, USA in 2008. His area of research is in the field of Renewable Energy both Solar & Wind Energy. Dr. Amit Prashant is Professor of Civil Engineering and Dean of Research and Development at IIT Gandhinagar. At present, he is also the officiating director of IIT Gandhinagar. He is member of the Board of Governors of SVNIT Surat as well as Tapi Riverfront SPV. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree from IIT Roorkee in 1997, and PhD from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2004. He worked at IIT Kanpur as Assistant Professor during 2005-2010 before moving to IIT Gandhinagar. His research interests are in constitutive modelling of soils, earthquake geotechnical engineering and applications of Geosynthetics, which includes experimental investigations and numerical modelling. He has done field projects related to hill slopes, excavations, canals, ash-dyke, bridge foundations, barrage, etc. He has conducted several industry courses in earthquake engineering, FEM and Geotechnical investigations, which have been quite popular.

He did Ph.D. (Structural Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The topic of his research was ‘Performance Evaluation of Confined Masonry Buildings under Cyclic Lateral Loads’. His area of interest encompasses precast buildings, structural dynamics, structural health monitoring; experimental investigation of buildings; earthquake resistant design, construction & retrofit; confined masonry, seismic vulnerability/ post-earthquake damage assessment, precast buildings, 3D concrete printing, numerical analysis, historical construction etc. He has published more than 140 papers in International and National Journals/Conferences, more than 150 reports and 12 books on Earthquake Resistant Design & Construction, Guidelines for Confined Masonry, Structural Design & Detailing of Confined Masonry EWS Houses, and Good Construction Practices. He has filed 5 Indian patents and 5 technologies transferred to the industry. So far, he has guided 6 Ph.D.’s (5 in progress), 40 MTech s and 60 B.Tech. students. He developed “Spinners: Tool for design of RC Slabs and Beams for Residential Buildings” and documentary on “Confined Masonry”, which are most widely referred document in construction sector. He did field implementation of Over 40000 confined masonry buildings; 70 schools, 1 library and 132 hospitals in Nepal; strengthening / retrofit of over 300 Institutional, health, educational, industrial buildings and 5 Thermal Power Plants; Over 25 lakhs housing units in precast monolithic construction; 6300 units EWS houses in emerging construction technologies in 6 Light House Projects; 10 Makeshift COVID Hospitals; SHM of Kalwa Bridge and New Parliament Building etc. He has done many collaborative and sponsored industrial projects for industrial and strategic sectors; notable of them include those funded by IGCAR, BARC, NTPC, NDMA, Ministry of External Affairs, MOUHA, Airport Authority of India, IOCL, BPCL, Fertilizer Plants, Ports etc. He was instrumental in post-disaster rehabilitation of Kedarnath and Badrinath dham. Presently, he is Team Leader for “Post-earthquake reconstruction of Education and Health Infrastructure in Nepal” under Govt. of India funded projects; Improving disaster resiliency of Lifeline building in Himalayan region; and many more. He is a Member of Building Committee at several Institutes: Post-Earthquake Reconnaissance Team, NDMA, and Bureau of Indian Standard. He is a Member of ISET, ICI, IE(I) and several other professional bodies. Dr. Rai received a B.E. (Honors) from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (1989), an M.S. from the University of Oklahoma, Norman (1992), and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1996). Prior to joining IIT Kanpur, he was a research fellow at the University of Michigan (1996-1997), and on the faculty of the Department of Earthquake Engineering at IIT Roorkee (1997-2001). His research interests are in the design and behavior of structures under earthquake loads, experimental investigations, supplemental damping, seismic rehabilitation, masonry structures and seismic design codes. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers in journals and conferences in the area of structural and earthquake engineering. He received the 2021 John B. Scalzi Research Award from The Masonry Society, USA for an outstanding, lifetime contribution to masonry research; the 2000 Shah Family Innovation Prize from the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (USA) for innovative approaches to earthquake risk mitigation and retrofit, and public entrepreneurship in code development, continuing education and improved standards to reduce future earthquake risk; and the Young Engineer Award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering (1999), among others. He is also elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (2010).

Dr. Matsagar obtained his doctorate (PhD) degree from IIT Bombay in 2005 in the area of earthquake engineering for his PhD Thesis titled "Earthquake Behavior and Impact Response Control of Base-Isolated Buildings" for which he has been honored with the "IIT Bombay Research Paper Award". He performed post-doctoral research in the area of application of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites in prestressed concrete bridge structures at the Lawrence Technological University (LTU), Michigan in the USA. Professor Matsagar's current research interests include multi-hazard engineering; multi-hazard protection of structures from earthquake, blast, fire, and wind; structural dynamics and vibration control; finite element methods; fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in prestressed concrete structures; and bridge engineering. Related to these research areas, he has completed number of sponsored research projects with national and international collaboration. He has developed innovative technologies in these areas some of which are copyrighted and patented, and he has been actively engaged in field implementation of these technologies in real-life construction projects in India. He has published more than hundred international journal papers, other hundreds of international conference manuscripts, two books, eight edited proceedings, has two patents and one copyright; thereby, he is enlisted in the world’s top 2% scientists. These research contributions have duly complemented in his teaching, enriching teaching-and-learning experience aptly. He has guided several students at both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels in their bachelors and masters’ projects and doctoral research. Besides UG and PG student guidance, he is actively engaged in sponsored research and consultancy projects at national and international levels. He has served as member on the National Building Code (NBC) of India and is currently serving on code-development committees in the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Indian Roads Congress (IRC), and International Standards Organization (ISO).
